ITEC DAY – 2017

Embassy of India in Amman hosted a function at Hotel Grand Hyatt, Amman, on 31 October 2017 to celebrate the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day. In the spirit of South-South cooperation, under its ITEC programme, which started in 1964, India shares its rich experience in the field of economic development, manpower, skills and technology with its 161 partner countries, including Jordan. Apart from regular courses, special courses and training programmes are arranged on specific request of partner countries. Over the years ITEC programme has evolved, covering not only wide geography but also diversity of sectors from training in civilian and defence sectors to aid for disaster relief. Government of India accords high importance to development partnership and has created Development Partnership Administration Division in the Ministry of External Affairs, to give dedicated attention to partner countries.

Following the historic visit of Hon’ble President of India to Jordan in 2015, Government of India increased the number of slots for Jordanian candidates to 50 every year for long, medium and short-term courses. This is in addition to scholarships offered to Jordanian students under other schemes like ICCR scholarships, etc.

H.E. Mr. Muhannad Shehadeh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Investment Affairs and Chairman of Jordan Investment Commission was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Shehadeh expressed appreciation for the ITEC and other scholarship programmes offered by India and hoped for enhanced cooperation between the two countries in all fields including in economic and commercial fields. H.E. Mr. Jafar Shishani, Acting Director (Asia & Oceania), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates appreciated ITEC programme adding that these programmes helped Jordanian officials and professionals hone their skills and learn about India’s cultural diversity as well.

Ms. Neveen Al Araj, Senior International Cooperation and Communications Officer, Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, appreciated ITEC programme adding that these programmes helped Jordanian officials and professionals and also learn about India’s cultural diversity as well. Ambassador of India to Jordan, Mrs. Shubhdarshini Tripathi, said that capacity building and skills development were a part of India’s cooperation with Jordan and India was committed to further strengthen its close partnership with people of Jordan. Ambassador also said that ITEC programme also gave an avenue to strengthen people-to-people contact between Jordan and India to build upon the existing goodwill for India in Jordan. Many Jordanian guests, including the alumni of training courses in India attended the ITEC day programme and shared their wonderful experiences of undergoing training courses in India.
